1 - Ray Charles - Booty Butt (1970)
My Kind of Jazz (released on his Tangerine label, thankfully without the Dream) isn't such a rare record these days, but I found this gem at a church fair in a basement in Sainte-Foy in the 90s. It's worth noting that it's funkier than your average record for The Genius / Brother Ray. During the same vinyl haul, Ray Bryant, with his 1969 album, was also there; apparently, a fan of pianists named Ray had gone to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.
My Kind of Jazz (avec son étiquette Tangerine, heureusement sans le Dream) est un disque pas si rare, à ce jour, mais cette perle je l'ai trouvé dans une kermesse dans un sous-sol d’église à Sainte-Foy dans les années 90. Il faut savoir que c'est plus funky que la moyenne des ours pour The Genius / Brother Ray. Durant le même voyage de vinyles, Ray Bryant avec son album de 1969, visiblement un amateur de pianistes nommé Ray était allé rejoindre la vallée de Josaphat.

2 - Sadun Jabir - Ashhad Biannak Hilou (I Admit You Are Beautiful)
He is an Iraqi singer, oud songwriter, and oud player. Known as the "Ambassador of the Iraqi song", he is considered among the most successful Iraqi artists across the Arab world. His main musical inspirations is Abdel Halim Hafez.
Chanteur, compositeur et joueur de oud irakien, il est surnommé « l’Ambassadeur de la chanson irakienne » et compte parmi les artistes les plus talentueux du monde arabe. Abdel Halim Hafez est sa principale source d'inspiration musicale.
3 - Tender Agression
Cryin’ Wind is from Power Sandwich in 1976 that was released in Intercord in Germany. The disco studio assemblage was active in mid 70's featuring some of the country's finest musicians, led by Dieter Reith, including drummer Curt Cress and guitarist Siegfried Schwab.
« Cryin’ Wind » est tiré de l’album « Power Sandwich » sorti en 1976 chez Intercord en Allemagne. Ce collectif disco, actif au milieu des années 70, réunissait certains des meilleurs musiciens du pays, sous la direction de Dieter Reith, avec notamment le batteur Curt Cress et le guitariste Siegfried Schwab.
4 - David Porter
The QLS classic epsiode for June 22 was with the author of Hold On I'm Coming. His book The Soul Man: Life of Songwriter is out since last April. As Kenny Cain, he released Words Can Never Say / Practice Makes Perfect and then performed as Little David.

The Questlove show had him as a guest on June 22. The bassist first came to prominence as a member of heavy metal band Suicidal Tendencies, he began playing at an early age, listening to players such as Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller for inspiration.
