On April 25, 1994, it was The Source magazine's first awards show. A Tribe Called Quest was Band of the Year and Dr. Dre Best Solo Artist. One segment that was popular in The Source magazine was the Unsigned Hype. Among the featured artists: The Notorious BIG, Eminem, DMX, 50 Cent, Immortal Technique, Common, Thirstin Howl III, Mobb Deep, Joell Ortiz, DJ Shadow, Percee P, Rasco, Proof, Canibus, Action Bronson , Macklemore, Mad Skillz, Ghetto Dwellas, Mr. Complex, CNN, Rawcotiks, Saafir, Choclair, Snupe, Artifacts, Fesu, The Jigmastas, Neek The Exotic and Jay Electronica. Le 25 avril 1994, c’était la première remise de prix du magazine The Source. A Tribe Called Quest était le groupe de l’année et Dr. Dre le meilleur artiste solo. Un segment qui était populaire dans la revue The Source était le Unsigned Hype. On March 5, 1992, as a follow-up to Matty C's Unsigned Hype column in The Source magazine, The Notorious B.I.G. was a guest on Stretch and Bobbito. Puff Daddy asked Matty C which MC was the best in Unsigned Hype to sign him with Uptown Records. Le 5 mars 1992, pour faire suite à la chronique Unsigned Hype de Matty C dans la revue The Source, The Notorious B.I.G. est invité à l’émission de Stretch and Bobbito.
