On April 30, 2018, the #MuteRKelly campaign picks up steam when Ava DuVernay tweets her support. The campaign is designed to marginalize R. Kelly, who has been accused of sexual misconduct. On July 11, 2019, Kelly was arrested on federal charges alleging sex crimes, human trafficking, child pornography, racketeering, and obstruction of justice. Kelly faces a total of 22 federal counts, including child pornography, kidnapping and forced labor, as of January 29, 2021. As a result, he is currently incarcerated at Metropolitan Correctional Center, Chicago.
