Chanteuse soul née à Fayetteville en Caroline Du Nord, ce 45 tours est paru avec Barry Records de Hy Weiss (son fils Barry a travaillé avec DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, A Tribe Called Quest, Whodini, Kool Moe Dee, Too Short, Boogie Down Productions et UGK). Mr. Fixit s'est retrouvé sur les compilations All The Ladies Need Funk en 2002 et Funk Soul Sisters en 2003.

3 - Wade Flemons - Two Of A Kind (1968)
Rareté du northern soul qui se vend à plus de 1000$ avec Ramsel Records de Ramsey Lewis. Le chanteur a brièvement fait parti du groupe Earth Wind And Fire en 1971 et 1972. À la fin des années 60, il était dans la formation The Salty Peppers avec Donny Hathaway et Maurice White.

4 - El Combo Xingu - Xingu (1972)
Groupe chilien fondé en 1971, le batteur Luis Ortiz a aussi fait parti de Los Angeles Negros alors que Patricio Lobos était dans Beat Combo. Pour leur 2e album, ils étaient avec l'étiquette IRT qui appartenait à Industria De Radio y Televisión, S.A., celle-ci a été nationalisée par Salvador Allende peu avant qu'il ne soit assasiné pour être remplacé pour le dictateur Pinochet.
Chilean group founded in 1971, drummer Luis Ortiz was also part of Los Angeles Negros while Patricio Lobos was in Beat Combo. Sous le nom d'A.A.B.B., les J.B. ont sorti un simple, "Pick up the Pieces One by One", qui a atteint la 108e place des palmarès américains en 1975. La pièce et le nom, qui signifiaient "Above Average Black Band" étaient un hommage et une réponse ironique au groupe funk écossais alors populaire, The Average White Band (également connu sous le nom d'AWB) et à son simple à succès n°1 "Pick Up the Pieces". La ligne de basse affiche une similitude déconcertante à Hot Pants Road de 1972 des mêmes protégés de James Brown. 10 - Boogiemonsters - Riders of the Storm: The Underwater Album (1994)
Après la sortie du premier album, le groupe est devenu Adventistes du Septième Jour (secte que je connais malheureusement trop bien). Yodared et Myntric ont quitté le groupe car tous deux estimaient que le style de vie hip-hop n'était pas conforme à leurs convictions religieuses. Yodared est devenu le pasteur en chef de l’église adventiste du septième jour de Templeton Hills à Templeton, en Californie. Musicalement, c'était un un album que je considérais faible à l'époque et c'est encore le cas, plusieurs échantillonnages usés pour 1994. Les thèmes sont toutefois plus originaux et là-dessus la formation a expérimentée.
After the release of the first album, the group became Seventh-day Adventists (a sect that I unfortunately know too well). Yodared and Myntric left the group as both felt that the hip-hop lifestyle was not in line with their religious convictions. Yodared became the head pastor at the Templeton Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Templeton, California. Beatwise, it was an album that I considered weak at the time and that's still the case, several samples played out for 1994. The themes are however more original and the band experimented on that.
11 - Pillow Queens - Heavy Pour (2024)
