Ben Merlis - Goin' Off: The Story of the Juice Crew and Cold Chillin' Records

On November 5, 2019, Ben Merlis released the book Goin' Off: The Story of the Juice Crew and Cold Chillin' Records. The original Juice Crew consisted of Mr. Magic, Sal Abbatiello, Sweet G, DJ June Bug and Kurtis Blow. In 1983, Marley Marl's girlfriend, Dimples D. released Sucker DJ’s. It was a response to Sucker M.C.’s of Run-DMC. In 1984, at just 15 years old, the incredible Roxanne Shante released Roxanne’s Revenge. It was a response to Roxanne, Roxanne from UTFO. This time UTFO responded, unlike Run-DMC, and on top of that it was the start of the Roxanne Wars. Biz Markie, MC Shan and Marley Marl did not participate in the book but so did Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante and Masta Ace.

C’était une réponse à Sucker M.C.’s de Run-DMC. En 1984, à seulement 15 ans l’incroyable Roxanne Shante sortait Roxanne’S Revenge. C’était une réponse à Roxanne, Roxanne de UTFO. Cette fois UTFO ont répondu, contrairement à Run-DMC, et en plus ça été le début des guerres des Roxanne (Roxanne Wars). Biz Markie, MC Shan et Marley Marl ne participent pas au livre mais c’est le cas pour Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante et Masta Ace.

Chappelle’s Show

Le 22 janvier 2003, c’était le début du Chappelle’s Show. Deux saisons complètes ont vu le jour à Comedy Central et une 3e saison de 3 épisodes inédits a été diffusée après la débâcle de Chappelle. On August 26, 2023, Big Daddy Kane headlined a Hip Hop 50 event at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. During the show, Kamanchi Sly from British group Hijack came on stage wearing a mask and simply stood in front of the cheering audience. Kane tolerated the interruption for a few minutes but ended up stopping the music to confront the agitator. Hijack was scheduled to perform after Big Daddy Kane. This was considered disrespectful by Hijack, which is why Sly invaded the stage. Ice-T signed Hijack to his own Rhyme Syndicate label, they recorded and released the single "The Badman is Robbin'" (Rhyme Syndicate, 1989). The track reached number 56 on the UK Singles Chart.
