Pen and Pixel

On October 2, 2020, the 21 Savage and Metro Boomin duo released Savage Mode II. We can't write about the music part of the album because this is precisely a blog about music and hip-hop, not about (c) (t) rap. The cover, however, brings back painful memories of the days of No Limit Records, Cash Money Records and Suave House Records. Which raises the existential question: who is it that makes these godamn ugly covers? The answer: Pen and Pixel. The company closed in 2003, they say because of September 11 and Napster. According to reality it is more because of No Limit Records which went bankrupt in 2003.

Le 2 octobre 2020, le duo 21 Savage et Metro Boomin sortait Savage Mode II. Nous ne pouvons pas écrire sur le volet musical de l’album car justement ceci est un blogue sur la musique et le hip-hop, pas sur le / la ( c) (t) rap. La pochette toutefois rappelle des souvenirs douloureux de l’époque de No Limit Records, Cash Money Records et Suave House Records. Ce qui soulève la question existentielle: c’est qui coudonc qui fait ces mausus de pochettes lettes-là? Réponse Pen and Pixel. La compagnie a fermé en 2003, selon eux à cause du 11 septembre et de Napster. Selon la réalité c’est plutôt à cause de No Limit Records qui a fait faillite en 2003.

Soft Machine

On August 26, 2023, Big Daddy Kane headlined a Hip Hop 50 event at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. During the show, Kamanchi Sly from British group Hijack came on stage wearing a mask and simply stood in front of the cheering audience. Kane tolerated the interruption for a few minutes but ended up stopping the music to confront the agitator. Hijack was scheduled to perform after Big Daddy Kane. This was considered disrespectful by Hijack, which is why Sly invaded the stage. Ice-T signed  Hijack to his own Rhyme Syndicate label, they recorded and released the single "The Badman is Robbin'" (Rhyme Syndicate, 1989). The track reached number 56 on the UK Singles Chart. Hijack's debut album, The Horns of Jericho (Rhyme Syndicate, 1991), was recorded around the same time.
