De La Soul - De La Soul is Dead

On May 13, 1991, the De La Soul trio released De La Soul is Dead, their 2nd album. The song "Pass the Plugs" features the lyrics "Arsenio dissed us but the crowd kept clapping." This refers to the group performing on The Arsenio Hall Show, where the host introduced them as "the hippies of hip-hop." The group then performed "Me Myself and I," which explicitly states that they are not hippies. The credits for the end of the show also began to run over the performance before the group was finished, contributing to the perceived lack of respect.

Le 13 mai 1991, le trio De La Soul sortait De La Soul is Dead, leur 2e album. La chanson "Pass the Plugs" contient les paroles "Arsenio dissed us but the crowd kept clapping." Cela fait référence au groupe qui se produit au Arsenio Hall Show, où l’animateur les présente comme «les hippies du hip-hop». Le groupe a ensuite interprété «Me Myself and I», qui déclare explicitement qu'ils ne sont pas des hippies. On August 26, 2023, Big Daddy Kane headlined a Hip Hop 50 event at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. During the show, Kamanchi Sly from British group Hijack came on stage wearing a mask and simply stood in front of the cheering audience. Kane tolerated the interruption for a few minutes but ended up stopping the music to confront the agitator. Hijack was scheduled to perform after Big Daddy Kane. This was considered disrespectful by Hijack, which is why Sly invaded the stage. Ice-T signed  Hijack to his own Rhyme Syndicate label, they recorded and released the single "The Badman is Robbin'" (Rhyme Syndicate, 1989). The track reached number 56 on the UK Singles Chart.
