Leur membre le plus célèbre fut Teddy Pendergrass de 1970 à 1976. Le groupe est mentionné sur l'album Doggystyle de Snoop Dogg, sorti en 1993. Dans l'intro de « Doggy Dogg World », maga Snoop déclare : « Bitch, toi sans moi, c'est comme Harold Melvin sans les Blue Notes, tu ne seras jamais disque de platine ! »

Pour le simple original, Bang Records a ajouté une chorale de fond sans l'implication ni la permission du chanteur de Sweet Caroline.
