1 - Weldon Irvine - Morning Sunrise
The Sisters avait été enregistré en 1979 mais était seulement paru pour la première fois en 1998 avec Saucerman Records. Nodlew Music en a fait une réédition en 2013 et Nature Sounds l'a sorti à nouveau en 2018. Weldon Irvine a été le chef d'orchestre de la chanteuse de jazz Nina Simone et a été le mentor de nombreux artistes hip-hop new-yorkais, dont Q-Tip et Mos Def. Il a rejoint la chorale du lycée, The Ambassadors (pas de la renommée Ain't Got The Love), à l'adolescence. Sa carrière a débuté alors qu'il écrivait, produisait et arrangeait des chansons pour la 5ème Dimension.
He was the uncle of Cold 187um (properly nicknamed Big Hutch) from the rap group Above the Law. He joined the high school choral group, The Ambassadors (not of Ain't Got The Love fame), as a teenager. His career took a start as he was writing, producing and arranging songs for the 5th Dimension.

Produced by Just Blaze, it samples “Super Freak” by Rick James, as well as “100 Guns” by Boogie Down Productions. Some people’s criticism was that he used a 10-month old beat from his MySpace page. But actually it was done shortly after he put it up. He has said that it was Questlove of The Roots who first directed Hov to the MySpace page to listen to the instrumental.

It is a 1981 hit single produced and performed by James Ambrose Johnson. The song, co-written by James and Alonzo Miller, was first released on his album “Street Songs” and became one of his signature songs. It features background vocals from Motown labelmates The Temptations, in which the bass singer is his uncle Melvin Franklin and Canadian singer Taborah Johnson. “Freak” is a slang term for, as described in the song’s lyrics, “…a very kinky girl / The kind you don’t take home to mother”.

7 - Lupe Fiasco - Pressure
Dans ce morceau remarquable de son premier album Food & Liquor, lui et Jay-Z échangent des rimes sur un instrumental entraînant fourni par le réalisateur Prolyfic. Il échantillonne le son disco instrumental de Pressure Cooker par l'interprète de Motown, Thelma Houston et du groupe d'accompagnement Pressure Cooker de 1975. In this stand-out track off his debut album Food & Liquor, him and Jay-Z trade rhymes over a lively instrumental provided by producer Prolyfic. 9 - Jay Electronica - Shiny Suit Theory
Le premier morceau sorti depuis sa signature sur l'étiquette Roc Nation de Jay-Z. Il rappe du point de vue d'un rappeur en devenir qui reçoit de précieux conseils de son bon ami et magnat du rap Diddy (il faisait pression avec différents huiles pour qu'Electronica signe avec Bad Boy Records). Tandis que Jay- Z, qui est déjà l’un des rappeurs avec le plus de succès de tous les temps, donne une tournure au refrain, le psy représente l'Amérique blanche et tente de le convaincre qu'il vit dans un rêve et qu'il n'est pas censé réussir. Diddy Do It était également sur l’affiche du rap « Shiny Suit Era ». Sur son troisième album, The Saga Continues, il y a un sketch intitulé « Shiny Suit Man » dans lequel le violeur accusé dit : Je voulais juste mettre les choses au clair, que quand ils parlent du Shiny Suit, ils parlent de moi. The first track released since he signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label. He raps from the perspective of a soon-to-be successful rapper who receives valuable advice from a good friend and rap-mogul Diddy (he was pushing for Electronica to sign with Bad Boy Records). While Jay Z, who’s already one of the most successful rappers of all time, puts a spin on the hook; the shrink represents white America and tries to convince him that he is living in a dream and not supposed to be successful. Diddy Do It was also the posterboy for rap’s “Shiny Suit Era”. On his third album The Saga Continues there’s a skit titled “Shiny Suit Man” where the accused rapist says : I just wanted to get the record straight, that when they’re talking about the Shiny Suit, they’re talking about me. The beat samples The Ambassadors' “Ain’t Got The Love of One Girl (On My Mind)”, which Pete Rock used with more polish on “I Got a Love”. The song ended up on Electronica’s long-awaited debut studio album A Written Testimony, almost a decade after its release.

11 - Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis
Dans le deuxième simple de Watch the Throne, Yeezus transforme une partie d'un morceau classique d'Otis Redding en un instrumental complet. Il a formé la pièce après que son mentor No I.D. lui a présenté un défi de réalisation. Il incorpore un refrain ralenti du célèbre « Try a Little Tenderness » de Redding au début de la chanson, puis coupe et retravaille l'échantillon de piano avant d'inaugurer la lourde ligne de basse et la batterie. La réalisation a reçu des éloges critiques pour sa similitude avec son époque de rythmes d'échantillonnage de style Blueprint et College Dropout.
The second single from Watch the Throne, it has Yeezus flipping a portion of a classic Otis Redding track into an entire instrumental. He formed the track after his mentor No I.D. presented him with a producing challenge. He incorporates a slowed-down refrain from Redding’s infamous “Try a Little Tenderness” at the beginning of the track, then chops and reworks the piano sample before ushering in the heavy bass line and drums. The production received critical praise for its similarity to his Blueprint and College Dropout-era of soul-sampling production.
