Avec le temps, c'est un de ses efforts les plus reconnus en compagnie de What's Going On de 1971 et Let's Get It On en 1973. Le ton personnel de Here, My Dear réflète la récente et difficile séparation qu'il y a vécu avec la soeur de Berry Gordy de Motown (la compagnie de disques de Marvin).
15th album from one of the greatest singers of all time, a vinyl which was not successful upon its release and that was panned by critics. It's a mostly soul album with funk but almost no disco and we are at the end of 1978 which is the peak of 4/4 on the dance floor. Over time, it became one of his most recognized efforts, along with What's Going On from 1971 and Let's Get It On from 1973. The personal tone of Here, My Dear reflects the recent and difficult separation he experienced. with Berry Gordy's sister from Motown (Marvin's record company).
