Le chanteur et guitariste Ruban Nielson a sorti le morceau "Ffunny Ffriends" sur son profil anonyme Bandcamp le 17 mai 2010. Aucune autre information n'a été fournie ni aucune mention de qui l'a créé. En une journée, la chanson avait reçu une couverture importante de la part de blogs musicaux indépendants tels que Pitchfork. Grâce à leur republication et à leurs tentatives de traquer le créateur, Nielson a finalement revendiqué le morceau comme appartenant à Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
