On March 3, 2023, the Art Ensemble Of Chicago album titled Les Stances a Sophie from 1970 was reissued on 1000 vinyl copies. On May 28, 1969, four American musicians - reed / wind players Roscoe Mitchell, Joseph Jarman, bassist Malachi Favors and (accompanied by his wife, singer Fontella Bass) trumpeter Roscoe Mitchell - boarded the ocean liner S.S. United States, bound for Le Havre in France. After landing five days later, they traveled to Paris, where they got to work. Moshe Mizrahi's seminal film, Les Stances à Sophie, remained virtually invisible until its reissue in 2008. The disc, a thrilling and eminently listenable combination of soul, classical and jazz strains that survives as the most diverse album stylistically from the Art Ensemble of Chicago, has long been admired by a devoted cult. Its durability is largely due to the popularity of its “hit”: Over the years, “Theme de Yoyo” has been covered several times.

Le 3 mai 2023, malheureusement nous avons appris le décès de la chanteuse soul Linda Lewis. De 1971 à 1979, elle a fait paraître six albums en solo. Lewis a également fourni des chœurs à d'autres artistes, notamment David Bowie, Al Kooper, Cat Stevens, Steve Harley et Cockney Rebel, Rick Wakeman (de Yes), Rod Stewart, Hummingbird et Jamiroquai. She was not only the first artist to record for Clarke-Pearsall Productions, Miami's first black independent production company, she was also the only artist on Miami's Deep City label to record a full album. Helene Smith continued her mission after music by working with children and herself became a teacher in the Miami School District, teaching first graders.

An integral part of the Brazilian Clube Da Esquina movement in the early 1970s, a heady mix of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, jazz and traditional Brazilian rhythm runs through the three studio albums the band recorded between 1970 and 1973. the flag of counterculture in the context of military dictatorship, Brazilian prog lords shared much of the sense of experimentation and abundant fuzz bequeathed by their Tropicalismo ancestors. But armed with genius composers and arrangers and a high level of musicality, Som Imaginário introduced a powerful harmonic complexity to Brazilian popular music, which would inspire generations of artists to come. On October 4, 1976, after completing a period of recording and touring with Milton Nascimento, Som Imaginário gave a concert to celebrate Nature Day in Brasilia. The recordings of the show will become “Banda Da Capital”.

Byrd became a member of the Howard University faculty, but like all great teachers, he realized that he too was always learning. "I was greatly influenced by the students," Byrd said in a 1976 radio interview. "We taught each other, we moved each other." Along with his studies and successful jazz career, he became increasingly aware of being a black man in America. "We're trying to find out what's black in this music," he told the Washington Post in 1968. By then, Byrd had recorded a series of crackling bop albums with his quintet featuring Sonny Red on alto sax, Cedar Walton on piano, Walter Booker on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. It all culminated with Slow Drag (recorded May 1967). By then, the civil rights movement was in full swing, with student sit-ins across the country demanding change.

From 1995 to 1999, LL Cool J starred in his own television sitcom In the House. He portrayed a former Raiders running back from Oakland who finds himself in financial difficulty and is forced to rent part of his house to a single mother and her two children.In 1999, he played the role of Julian Washington, a talented but selfish running back on the team fictional professional football player from the Miami Sharks, in Oliver Stone's drama Any Given Sunday.

On July 21, 2023, the unreleased album The Science will be released by Main Source. The original trio's (with Large Professor) first and only album, Breaking Atoms, was released in 1991 to critical and commercial acclaim, before Large Professor left the group. They recorded a second album, The Science, and even ran adverts for it in The Source hip-hop magazine, before the band's breakup led to its indefinite shelving. In 2008, UK label Diggers With Gratitude unofficially released Lost Science which included three songs from 1992 as demos from the album "The Science". Main Source was founded in 1989. The band's debut album, Breaking Atoms, released in July 1991, featured tracks such as "Looking at the Front Door", "Just a Friendly Game of Baseball" and "Watch Roger Do His Thing ", as well as Nas' first record appearance on "Live at the Barbeque", which also featured Joe Fatal and Akinyele.

3 - Mack And The Creators - Brick Road (1977) 

Seul album de ce groupe funk de Los Angeles avec Balcan Records. N'ayant pas été réédité, l'original se vend à une centaine de dollars.  Andrea Thomas, qui est aux cuivres et au chant sur Brick Road, s'était aussi chargé de la batterie pour Sabi et Asante Sana par Oneness Of Juju. 

Only album of this funk band from Los Angeles with Balcan Records. Having not been re-released, the original sells for a hundred dollars. Andrea Thomas, who is on horns and vocals on Brick Road, was also responsible for the drums for Sabi and Asante Sana by Oneness Of Juju.

4 - Nancy Wilson - I’m In Love (1978) 

Sa série télévisée diffusée à NBC, The Nancy Wilson Show (1967-1968), a remporté un Emmy. En 1977, elle enregistre la chanson thème de The Last Dinosaur, un téléfilm qui sort en salles au Japon. Music On My Mind de 1978 est un album qui mélange le jazz et le soul.

Chanteur soul du Maryland qui a enregistré cette chanson inédite de J.J. Cale que celui-ci avait écrit mais qui n'avait pas encore été enregistré. Sept ans plus tôt, il avait travaillé avec le bouillant Phil Spector pour Hey There Mountain.

6 - Paddy Kingsland - Vespucci (1973)
