Hype Williams

Born August 1, 1970, it is the birthday of great music video director Hype Williams. Among his most notable: California Love version 2 and 3, Mo Money Mo Problems (or as we say in Quebec Mo Monique Mo Problems), Gimme Some More, Big Pimpin ’and Dr. Birds. He started in 1991 with BWP and Main Source. A genius, we tell you because the visual aspect he brought to hip-hop has greatly contributed to the popularity of this musical art.

Né le 1er août 1970, c’est l’anniversaire du grand réalisateur de clips Hype Williams. Parmi ses plus marquants: California Love version 2 et 3, Mo Money Mo Problems (ou comme on dit au Québec Mo Monique Mo Problems), Gimme Some More, Big Pimpin’ et Dr. Birds. Il avait débuté en 1991 avec BWP et Main Source. Un génie, on vous dit car le côté visuel qu’il a apporté au hip-hop a grandement contribué à la popularité de cet art musical.

Soft Machine

On August 26, 2023, Big Daddy Kane headlined a Hip Hop 50 event at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. During the show, Kamanchi Sly from British group Hijack came on stage wearing a mask and simply stood in front of the cheering audience. Kane tolerated the interruption for a few minutes but ended up stopping the music to confront the agitator. Hijack was scheduled to perform after Big Daddy Kane. This was considered disrespectful by Hijack, which is why Sly invaded the stage. Ice-T signed  Hijack to his own Rhyme Syndicate label, they recorded and released the single "The Badman is Robbin'" (Rhyme Syndicate, 1989). The track reached number 56 on the UK Singles Chart. Hijack's debut album, The Horns of Jericho (Rhyme Syndicate, 1991), was recorded around the same time.
