Chill Rob G - Ride The Rhythm

On May 23, 1989, Chill Rob G released Ride The Rhythm. The a cappella version of his song "Let the Words Flow" was sampled illegally and without permission by German pop-dance group Snap! on their hit record "The Power". The song was a remix created by German producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti (under the pseudonyms Benito Benites and John "Virgo" Garrett III). After the song gained popularity in Europe and Arista / BMG records called out (via Ariola / BMG, the band's label in their home country), Münzing and Anzilotti recruited Durron Butler (aka Turbo B) to recording a new version of the song rather than continuing the lip-sync of the original Chill Rob G lyrics. It was this version that was ultimately used and promoted as the official version of Snap!

During the show, Kamanchi Sly from British group Hijack came on stage wearing a mask and simply stood in front of the cheering audience. Kane tolerated the interruption for a few minutes but ended up stopping the music to confront the agitator. Hijack was scheduled to perform after Big Daddy Kane. This was considered disrespectful by Hijack, which is why Sly invaded the stage. Ice-T signed  Hijack to his own Rhyme Syndicate label, they recorded and released the single "The Badman is Robbin'" (Rhyme Syndicate, 1989). The track reached number 56 on the UK Singles Chart.
